UK REACH Compliance

When the United Kingdom left the European Union, it retained REACH as the cornerstone of its chemical regulation but created a fully separate register managed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) rather than ECHA. Any company manufacturing or importing substances above one tonne per year into Great Britain must maintain a UK REACH registration — EU REACH dossiers do not transfer automatically, and the transitional registration deadlines that applied to legacy substances have now passed for most tonnage bands.

UK REACH closely mirrors EU REACH in structure but diverges in key areas: the UK Candidate List of SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) is updated independently, the authorisation list is maintained separately, and the restriction process follows UK Parliamentary procedure rather than EU Comitology. For companies supplying both the EU and GB markets, this means maintaining parallel registration dossiers, monitoring two separate SVHC lists, and issuing jurisdiction-specific Safety Data Sheets.
