Generate an EU Declaration of Conformity for Electronics¶
An EU Declaration of Conformity for electronics is generated in four steps: identify the applicable directives, gather the conformity evidence, assemble the signed declaration, and publish a version buyers and authorities can verify.
Step 1: Identify the applicable directives¶
Typical set for consumer electronics:
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Radio Equipment Directive (RED), when the product has wireless
- RoHS
- Eco design and energy labelling, where applicable
Each directive adds requirements and standards to the technical file, so getting this list right is the step that prevents rework.
Step 2: Collect the evidence¶
- Test reports against the harmonised standards you claim
- Risk assessment and design documentation
- Supplier declarations for components and materials
Step 3: Write the declaration¶
A valid DoC states: the product identification, the manufacturer, the directives and standards claimed, the signatory, and the date. The signatory takes legal responsibility, so the declaration must match the technical file exactly.
Step 4: Publish it as a living document¶
Paper declarations go out of date the day a standard changes. A published declaration, linked to the technical file and versioned, stays current and verifiable with a URL and QR code.
Frequently Asked Questions¶
Can I self declare CE for electronics?
Yes, for most consumer electronics. Products with higher risk categories need a Notified Body, but LVD and EMC are routinely self declared with proper test evidence.
Does the DoC have to list every standard?
It lists the harmonised standards you rely on. Missing or outdated standard references are the most common reason customs or authorities challenge a declaration.
How long must the technical file be kept?
Ten years after the last unit is placed on the market.
